About Walters Paving & Construction:
Built by Family, Grit, and a Commitment to Doing the Job Right
At Walters Paving & Construction, our story has never been about shortcuts or overnight success. It has always been about family, hard work, and showing up every day ready to earn the trust of the people we serve. We are a family-owned asphalt paving contractor with more than 40 years of experience in the industry, and we have proudly served the Liberty community since 1990. From asphalt paving and grading to striping, filling, concrete curb, and gutters, we bring the same mindset to every project: work hard, do it right, and stand behind our name.
How Our Story Began
Our company had very modest beginnings. Back in 1982, Mac and Lois started Walters Paving Company with just enough equipment to get by. There was no fancy setup and no easy path waiting for them. There was simply a family doing everything they could to build a better future.
During the day, Mac and Lois worked hard to provide for their three children, Maggie, Charley, and Myra. At night, the work still did not stop. Mac would come home and repair the equipment so it could be ready to head back out the next day, while Lois cared for the children and held the family together. Life was not always easy, but faith and hard work carried them through.
That season shaped everything about who we are. It taught us that a good name is earned, not claimed. It taught us that quality comes from effort, consistency, and pride in the work. It also taught us that family businesses are built just as much at the kitchen table and in late-night repairs as they are on the jobsite.

The Values We Were Raised On
Mac and Lois did not just build a company. They built a way of life. By example, they instilled hard work, ethics, and responsibility into each of their children. Those values still guide our company today.
In a lot of businesses, people talk about integrity because it sounds good. In our family, integrity was something lived out every day. It looked like doing what needed to be done even when it was hard. It looked like fixing the equipment after dark because the next day’s work depended on it. It looked like sacrificing in the present to build something stronger for the future.
Those lessons became part of our company culture. We believe in showing up prepared, treating people fairly, and doing honest work that holds up over time. We also believe customers can tell the difference when a company genuinely cares about its reputation.
The Sacrifices That Helped Build This Company
When people see an established paving company, they do not always see what it took to get there. In our case, the road was built on sacrifice.
One story that means a lot to our family is Charley’s. Growing up, Charley was very active in 4-H and raised prize-winning hogs and cows. During those early years, when the company was just getting started and money was tight, he made a decision that said a lot about the family he came from. He gave up his prize-winning Hereford cow and bull calf to help the company buy the equipment it needed to keep going.
That is not the kind of choice most children are asked to make, and it is certainly not one that gets forgotten. Today, Charley has no regrets about it. That sacrifice became part of the foundation this company stands on. It reminds us that what we have today came from people who believed in the future enough to give up something valuable in the present.
A Family That Believed in Hard Work and Education
Mac and Lois worked incredibly hard, not just to keep the company alive, but to create opportunities for their children. Through their effort and determination, they were able to help all three children receive college educations.
Maggie earned a BA in Music Education from Furman University and a master’s degree from Southern Wesleyan. Charley earned a BA in Business Administration from Anderson University. Myra earned a BS in Crop and Soil Science from Clemson University.
We are proud of that because it reflects something deeper than academic achievement. It reflects the kind of family Mac and Lois built. They believed in working with your hands, but they also believed in investing in your future. Around here, hard work and learning have always gone hand in hand.

From Humble Beginnings to a Trusted Name
Walters Paving & Construction has grown a lot from those early days, but we have never forgotten where we came from. We know what it means to start small, stretch every dollar, and work for every opportunity. That is one reason we care so much about the trust people place in us.
We have proudly served the Liberty community since 1990, and over the years we have worked hard to maintain our name as a quality asphalt paving contractor. We may be a small-staffed business, but that has never stopped us from competing with much larger companies. In some ways, it has made us better.
When you are a smaller crew, everyone matters. Everyone has a job, and everyone does their job. There is no room for coasting. That kind of accountability creates a team that is efficient, hardworking, and committed to doing quality work every time.

We know most customers are not looking for a long sales pitch. They want clear answers, dependable work, and a finished result they can feel good about. That is how we approach every project. We focus on doing the job properly, communicating clearly, and making sure the final work reflects the standards we would want on our own property.
Whether the job is large or small, our goal is always the same. We want to provide work that is durable, practical, and done with care.
Why Our Size Works in Our Favor
Some people assume bigger automatically means better. We have never believed that. Being a smaller company has helped us stay hands-on, responsive, and focused.

Our size allows us to stay connected to the work and to the people we serve. That matters. It means our reputation is personal to us. It means we care deeply about the outcome of every job. And it means we are still driven by the same work ethic that got this company off the ground in the first place.
What Sets Our Crew Apart
We are proud of our crew because they understand what this company stands for. This is a hardworking group that genuinely loves the job they do. There is a shared pride in doing the work well and in being part of something that has been built over generations.
